John Tissot

Over his 25 years of theatre consulting practice, John Tissot has participated in the design of nearly every imaginable form of performing arts building in the U.S. and abroad.
          In 1996 he co-founded the NYC-based firm Theatre Design & Consulting, where he currently serves as Principal.  John has also worked concurrently for the past 12 years as an affiliate Project Manager with Theatre Projects Consultants.  Previously, he worked with Artec Consultants, where he served as Director of Theatre Consulting Services.
           John brings to his consulting practice many years of experience in professional theatre production as a lighting designer and associate set designer.  He has worked on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and with many top-ranked LORT and dance companies.
            For 13 years, John was an adjunct professor at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts, where he taught a Master Class in lighting design for MFA candidates.  He was also honored to be a guest lecturer on theatre consulting and architecture at Hong Kong's Academy of the Performing Arts.
            John holds a BFA from Ithaca College and an MFA from the Yale School of Drama.  He is a member of IATSE / United Scenic Artists Local # 829, and has served on the Lighting Commission of the USITT.  John is a contributing author to the recent 4th printing of Theater Production in America by David Conte and Stephen Langley, and was a key proofreader for the original printing of The Backstage Handbook by Paul Carter.
