Bob Murphy is the President of Occam’s Razor Technical Services. His work is primarily as a Theatre Consultant, specializing in rigging and automation. Since 2000 he has commissioned more than 20 new ships for Carnival Corporation Corporate Shipbuilding. He consulted on design and conducted testing for owner’s acceptance of all the theatrical machinery installed on Carnival Corporation’s newly built ships including the Queen Mary II and the recently launched Queen Victoria. He also consulted on the design and did the final inspection for a movable planetarium aboard the QM2. Land-based projects include consultation and installation supervision of all the theatrical machinery for Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, CA, Mondavi Performing Arts Center at UC Davis and LG Arts Center in Seoul, Korea. He was an Architectural Consultant for the Sony Arts Center in Camden, NJ.
He has held a variety of positions in the industry including Mechanization Supervisor for the last four productions of the State Farm Industrial Show, Production Supervisor on Madison Square Garden Productions “A Christmas Carol” and “The Wizard of Oz”, Technical Director for 8 years of the Miss America Pageant, Project Supervisor for the Roller Coaster Environment at King’s Island and King’s Dominion Amusement Parks, Scene Shop Supervisor at Paper Mill Play House, VP of Operations for Adirondack Scenic and Technical Director for Michigan Opera. He has a degree in Theatre and Physics from Fordham University
