Technical Standards:

Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules.

In the modern world, besides laws that tell you what you must do, there are standards, recommended practices, and codes written by non-governmental organizations to provide rules or advice for what you should do, how something should be made or used. Some of these writings function in society almost as laws, rules you must follow to avoid serious trouble. Some of these are simply good advice, suggestions for ways of doing things that have already been worked out so a person doesn't have to reinvent the wheel, making it square. Others are both.

The panelists will discuss where the standards, recommended practices, and codes that affect their work come from, who writes them, and how they help or hinder their work in theatre.
